Geo Metro In Chassis Over Haul (Engine Rebuild)
This is what I recommend for any engine with low compression and your budget does not allow for you to do a re-manufactured engine.
Low compression to you is bad gas mileage. The car smokes at start up or while driving. Can Use more than 1 quart of oil in 500 miles. Leaks oil from seals. Or its just a high mileage engine and you would like to keep it super reliable.
Your rebuilt engine will use about 1 quart in 800 to 1200 miles and will run just fine with a decent MPG but it will not have the MPG a NEW Geo Metro engine gets. Expect a good 3 MPG loss over going with a new engine or about .25 cents a gallon at the pump in additional cost of fuel.
If your in an emissions area I don't recommend a rebuild, as some times depending on how many miles are on the block they will not pass an emissions test. Also I recommend the oil filling procedure as described below which makes topping off the oil very convenient.
I always recommend on engine oil filling to add one additional quart of oil when changing (5 quarts). Then when it shows one quart low top off again (adding two quarts). The next time it needs to be refilled it should be at about 3000 to 4000 miles and time to change it again. Don't add the two quarts to bring it back to full. At this time change the oil and use those two quarts as part of your fresh new oil change. Expect your rebuilt engine to use a couple quarts of oil this way between services instead of the standard three to four quarts.
If your not big fan of oil topping off, a re-manufactured engine is a great option for just a bit more money.
$1100.00 for this service. This is great way to go on a budget. Simply drive it in and drive it home when its done.
Yes the MPG custom head can be added to this engine for an additional $375.00 as well as most of the upgrades.
If you have a main rear oil seal leaking or need a clutch kit installed add 255.00 labor plus the rear seal and clutch kit itself.
